2nd Canadian Regiment by Charles M. Lefferts depicts a soldier of the 2nd Canadian Regiment, also known as Congress's Own Regiment. The 2nd Canadian was raised in 1776 and commanded by Colonel Moses Hazen, was composed of American patriots and French Canadians. Though officially part of the Continental Army, it was not affiliated with any state and reported directly to Congress—hence the nickname Congress's Own. It served with distinction in various campaigns, including the Sullivan Expedition and the Siege of Yorktown.
