Product Details:
Rembrandt Peale’s portrait of General Otho Holland Williams captures the dignified likeness of a seasoned American Revolutionary War officer whose life exemplified service and perseverance: born in Maryland in 1749, Williams rose from humble beginnings to join the Continental Army in 1775, was wounded and taken prisoner by the British at Fort Washington, and, after his exchange, went on to lead the 6th Maryland Regiment in key southern battles including Camden, Guilford Court House, and Eutaw Springs before being promoted to brigadier general in 1782; after the war he served as a customs official and merchant, helping shape the new nation before his death in 1794, and the portrait reflects both his military bearing and place among the young republic’s celebrated figures.
