Sherman is known for his “scorched earth” tactics, particularly during his March to the Sea, where he aimed to break the Confederacy's will to fight by targeting infrastructure, supplies, and morale. Sherman's perspective was controversial but rooted in his belief that a swift, overwhelming campaign would shorten the war and ultimately save lives.
