Product Details:
"HMS Shannon and USS Chesapeake" by John Ward Dunsmore depicts the famous naval battle between the British frigate HMS Shannon and the American frigate USS Chesapeake during the War of 1812. This battle occurred on June 1, 1813, off the coast of Boston. HMS Shannon, commanded by Captain Philip Broke, challenged the USS Chesapeake, commanded by Captain James Lawrence. The Chesapeake was captured, and Captain Lawrence was mortally wounded, famously uttering, "Don't give up the ship!"
