Product Details:

Into the Jaws of Death is one of the most iconic photographs from World War II, taken by Chief Photographer’s Mate Robert F. Sargent of the U.S. Coast Guard on June 6, 1944, during the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. The photograph captures a visceral, real-time scene of U.S. Army soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division disembarking from a Higgins boat (LCVP) into the choppy waters off Omaha Beach. The men wade toward shore, heavily burdened with gear, while under direct enemy fire from German fortifications. The image's composition — taken from the rear of the landing craft — puts viewers in the middle of the peril, evoking the terror and bravery of the moment.
