Product Details:

The Ambassadors by Hans Holbein the Younger is a double portrait of Jean de Dinteville, a French diplomat, and Georges de Selve, a bishop, surrounded by an array of objects symbolizing knowledge, power, and the fragile order of the Renaissance world. On the shelves between them lie globes, scientific instruments, books, and musical tools, reflecting humanist learning and worldly pursuits, while a broken lute string hints at discord. Most striking is the anamorphic skull stretched across the foreground, visible only from a sharp angle, serving as a memento mori reminding viewers of mortality amid wealth and achievement. Painted with Holbein’s trademark precision and luminous detail, the work combines portraiture, symbolism, and moral meditation into one of the most enigmatic masterpieces of the Northern Renaissance.
