Product Details:

The Death of General Sedgwick is a poignant 1887 oil painting by Julian Scott, a Civil War veteran and Medal of Honor recipient. This artwork captures the tragic moment on May 9, 1864, during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, when Union Major General John Sedgwick was fatally shot by a Confederate sharpshooter. Ironically, just moments before his death, Sedgwick had chided his men for dodging bullets, reportedly saying, "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."
