Product Details:
Washington's Farewell to his Officers by Alonzo Chappel is a poignant depiction of a significant historical moment marking the end of the American Revolutionary War. This painting captures the emotional farewell of General George Washington to his officers at Fraunces Tavern in New York City on December 4, 1783, shortly after the British evacuated the city. After leading the Continental Army to victory and seeing the end of British occupation in America, Washington decided to resign his commission as commander-in-chief. His farewell at Fraunces Tavern was an emotional event, where he thanked his officers for their service and bid them a final goodbye.
