Burgoyne's Surrender at Saratoga by Percy Moran captures the significant event during the American Revolutionary War that took place on October 17, 1777, in Saratoga, New York. The surrender marked a turning point in the war, boosting American morale and leading to increased French support for the American cause. The scene depicts the surrender of British General John Burgoyne to American forces led by General Horatio Gates. The surrender occurred after a series of battles, including the pivotal Battle of Saratoga. Burgoyne's army, surrounded and outnumbered, formally surrendered, and the British troops laid down their arms.
