Product Details:
The Mayflower Compact was a foundational document in American history, drafted and signed by the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower on November 11, 1620, just before they landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts. The compact was a social contract that established a form of self-government for the Plymouth Colony. It was born out of the necessity to maintain order and establish a legal framework in the absence of an existing royal charter for the region.
The Mayflower Compact outlined the colonists' agreement to form a civil body politic, bind themselves to follow just and equal laws for the general good of the colony, and submit to the will of the majority. It is considered an early precursor to the idea of constitutional governance and is recognized as a key influence on the development of representative democracy in America. The Mayflower Compact is a foundational document that reflects the principles of self-government and the rule of law that would later become integral to the formation of the United States.
