Product Details:

Charles Willson Peale's portrait of Nathanael Greene, Washington's most trusted general, captures the strength and determination of this great Continental Army warrior. Painted in the late 18th century, the portrait presents Greene in a military uniform, standing with poise and authority. His gaze is unwavering, reflecting his steadfast commitment to the revolutionary cause. With Washington almost every step of the way in the fight for American Independence, it was Greene's acheivements in the Southern colonies that made a crucial impact on the war. As the commander of the Southern Department, Greene faced significant challenges, including the daunting task of countering the British forces led by General Cornwallis. Despite initial setbacks, Greene's strategic brilliance became apparent in his use of guerrilla warfare and his ability to execute tactical retreats that preserved his forces. His leadership culminated in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781, where the British technically won but suffered such significant casualties that it weakened their overall position.
