Product Details:

The Storming of Stony Point, 1779 by Constantino Brumidi is a dramatic fresco completed in 1871 for the United States Capitol. The painting commemorates General Anthony Wayne’s daring nighttime assault on the British fortifications at Stony Point, New York, on July 16, 1779. Brumidi depicts the wounded Wayne, his head bandaged, being carried forward by his soldiers as he urges the attack onward, embodying the courage and determination that earned him the nickname “Mad Anthony.” Rich in movement and patriotic symbolism, the scene celebrates one of the Continental Army’s most brilliant victories and highlights the discipline and effectiveness of Washington’s elite light infantry. The fresco remains on display in the Capitol and is among Brumidi’s many contributions to the artistic decoration of the nation’s seat of government.
