Product Details:

Conversion on the Way to Damascus by Caravaggio was painted in 1600-1601 for the Cerasi Chapel in the church of Santa Maria del Popolo. The painting depicts the dramatic biblical moment when Saul of Tarsus, a persecutor of Christians, experiences a divine vision on the road to Damascus and is transformed into the Apostle Paul. Rather than showing a grand crowd or heavenly spectacle, Caravaggio focuses on the intimate aftermath of the event: Saul lies on his back with arms outstretched in surrender, his eyes closed as he receives divine grace, while a stable hand calmly restrains a massive horse that dominates the composition.
