Product Details:

The United States Life Saving Station, Cedar Point, Ohio, was located on the Cedar Point peninsula at the entrance to Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie, one of the busiest navigation routes on the Great Lakes. The station evolved from the historic Cedar Point Lighthouse property, which was established in 1862 to guide vessels entering the bay. During the twentieth century, the site served as a U.S. Coast Guard lifeboat station, continuing the lifesaving mission that had begun under the U.S. Life-Saving Service. Crews stationed there responded to shipwrecks, boating accidents, and vessels in distress on Lake Erie, operating rescue boats in all weather conditions. The station remained active until 1975, when its functions were transferred to a newer facility at Marblehead. Today, the original station house survives as the restored Cedar Point Lighthouse within Cedar Point's Lighthouse Point resort, standing as a reminder of the generations of lifesavers who protected mariners along Ohio's Lake Erie coast.
