Product Details:

John Trumbull's painting "Declaration of Independence" is a significant and iconic portrayal of the presentation of the draft of the Declaration to Congress. Completed in 1818, it depicts 47 of the 56 signers and other key figures involved in the drafting process, standing in the Assembly Room of the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. The central focus is on John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert R. Livingston, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin as they present the document to John Hancock, the President of the Continental Congress. The painting captures the monumental moment in American history when the Founding Fathers formally asserted their intention to seek independence from British rule, symbolizing the birth of the United States as a nation. Depicting the presentation of the draft of the Declaration of Independence to Congress, this scene was commissioned in 1817, purchased in 1819, and placed in the United States Capitol rotunda in 1826.
